I'm less excited about cryptocurrencies than you are. What happens when SHTF and you can't get online? What happens if some bug is lurking in the code which allows a clever hacker to generate unlimited coins? I've worked as a professional programmer and have seen many bugs pop out that had been missed for long periods of time. Maybe Bitcoin and others are bulletproof and maybe we won't experience SHTF, but I would not choose to put any of my wealth, such as it is, there.

Invest and buy property and goods that can be used to barter for things you can’t reproduce, but need. Grow your own food. Have a backup plan. Most people won’t do this. I want to, but I haven’t got around to it yet, due to my personal issues.

Steve is right. I would caution not to think in binaries, but like Steve I have a ways to go. You have to have a plan B in addition to plan A. I have started buying a little precious metals and a property plan, but that's not terribly scalable after things come back online after SHTF.

And a Plan C, and D, and E. If you don’t, I’ll be reminding you of all of the stupid and not helpful advice I have received from people who are not mental health professionals, yet they seem to know exactly what I should do to cope with my problems.
