As the US loses a second-rate mind to Canada, I'm here for the cupcakes and tearful farewells. Let's expose Jason Stanley's polemical silliness on his way out.
Indeed, your 5 are more accurate than Stanley's 10. It's astonishing that someone who can't provide even a Freshman PoliSci definition of fascism can be a professor of anything at Yale.
– More proof that academia has been fully captured by the state.
Enjoyed this! Would have liked more direct Stanley quotes to illustrate your derived implications, though... On the other hand, I completely understand if you don't want to have to read his work. I'm not keen myself.
However, I will say that fleeing the US for Canada right now to 'escape fascism' is rather like fleeing Mussolini's Italy for Austria to 'escape Nazis'. 😛 Sometimes you have to wonder about the way these oft-abused terms are being wielded...
Wow, you are right. I just realized that the common understanding of "fascism" has shifted. Narrative vs History. It sort of feels like we been brainwashed by the academics and the Blue Church has applied DARVO to the whole society.
And, I just looked at the comments of the video by "Big Think"... WOW. This is bonkers
This reflects many of the points I made before the election. All of these ominous pronouncements simply use confirmation bias and selective outrage to construct a narrative of authoritarian crisis. These people NEVER grapple with the possibility that their favored candidate/party/ideology might have authoritarian (even totalitarian) inclinations of its own. That simply isn't something they're capable of contemplating or addressing; "No, no! We care about equity and climate justice and LGBTQIA+ rights! We're the GOOD guys!"
They can use that mindset to visit the worst oppression and commit the most vile manipulations against their opponents. They're always the good guys. No matter what they do. Does that sound 'good' to you?

Stay wonderful!

Many Canadians, me included, really DONT want guys like this coming to Canada. Stay where you are!
Let's just move to Alberta, secede, and start our own country.
